Elton John Wants the Internet to Shut Down

Yes, the infamous Rocket Man wants the internet to just go away for a few years for the sake of the music. (Because the best music came out in the 70's before the internet) He says that todays music stinks because of the advent of the internet and other technology.
Here are a few quotes from him.
  • "We're talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that's not going to happen with people blogging on the internet."
  • "I mean, get out there -- communicate."
  • "Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet."
  • "Let's get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging."
  • "I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span."
  • "There's too much technology available
Hmm. I wonder what would happen if he and Sennator Ted Stevens got together for five years.

I think Elton should stick to what he does, make music and leave the technology to those who understand. Without it where would music be. Even he has benefited from his music being easily accessible worldwide.

I agree with anonymous (next time use an alias please). Elton is just mad because he isn't making the millions he used to in the 70's. The internet has given billions the opportunity to achieve the fame it would've taken him years to achieve. We just wanna be famous and rich like him.. except the gay part. I suppose he thinks that technology is stunting the growth of art, but I'd have to disagree with that. Much art in history really never had a chance to blossom because no one really knew about it, or it was too advance for its time. Now we have access to millions of ideas, millions of creative minds sharing their ideas over the internet.

And as for his views on blogging. Well, bloggers are the journalists of the future! We are the Smoking Gunmen of the 21st Century! (for additional information on the Smoking Gunmen, watch X-files)

His quip about getting out there and protesting.. If one can reach the same amount or even more people in blogging than getting out there and physically protesting, then blogging would be better wouldn't it? Protesting, sure... but who really listens to chants and such? Plus, if the media doesn't get word of your protest, then you're out there for nothing really. Blogging will reach a more vast an audience, especially if you've developed a reputation in the blogging community.

The internet is a tool and can be used for good or not. We all have to be careful how we operate the machines in our lives, otherwise we can hurt ourselves and those we care about.
